What is MRI?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical technique to develop three-dimensional pictures of the physiological processes and anatomy of a human body. The scan is conducted to detection of any diseases and to monitor the ongoing treatment. Trust MRI uses sophisticated technology by keeping their patient’s wellness as the first priority.

Why MRI is preferred over X-rays?

Generally, MRI is best suited for scanning non-bony parts of the human body. For instance, the brain, muscles, spinal cord, spinal nerves, ligaments, and tendons are more clearly seen compared to regular X-rays and CT scanning processes. Although, MRI is more expensive compared to X-rays.

Is it risky to take MRI?

It is safe in almost all cases except a few as mentioned below if all the required safety guidelines are taken care of appropriately.

  • Unlike X-rays and CT scanning, MRI does not produce ionizing radiation but utilizes a strong magnetic field. Since that field is very much powerful on object elements like some type of steel, magnetizable object, and iron, patients should inform these cases to their physicians or the professionals who are conducting the scan if there is any type of implant in their body.
  • Patients need ear protection in some MRI scans if the sound intensity is more than 120 decibels. This is generally provided by the professionals at the center.
  • MRI scans should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy. Because it is the stage when the fetus’s organs are getting formed. So, there is a chance of contrast agents entering the bloodstream.
  • Patients with Claustrophobia may resistant to scans that take a longer period.

Trust MRI has a team of experienced radiologists who performs each step of the MRI gently while keeping the patient’s comfort and safety as the first priority. Generally, this exam takes around 30 to 50 minutes to complete. Most MRI scans are painless. But some people may experience anxiety due to the enclosed space and some noise. Besides, in a very rare case, few patients would experience some side effects such as nausea, pain in the place of injection, and slight headache.
